New Beginnings

As of August 2011 I had to say goodbye to the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Boulder and Denver, and all the people whom I had grown to love over the past five years, and relocated myself to the South shores of the North coast, in Cleveland, Ohio. It was a sad goodbye, but a happy hello back to the city of my birth, and back to my family who I had not seen enough of. I am excited to be back in Cleveland, even though I spent the first 18 years of my life in this city, I feel like there is more here than ever before. The search for studio space has been a long journey, but It seems that I have finally found accommodations that work for me. Hopefully in the weeks to come there will be pictures of the move into the new space.

Being back on the Great Lakes has boosted a tremendous surge creative flow that is starting to manifest itself into physical form. I just finished an oil painting that is the beginning of my new body of work, I am really excited to share it all with the world, and the day I finished the work it was dropped off for exhibition at the Cleveland West Art League for an upcoming show on Friday, November 18th, at the 78th st. Studios, Cleveland, OH. If you get the chance come on down, see the new work, and meet some Cleveland artists with me.

In all these new things happening I have been getting ready to launch my practice into full swing here in Cleveland and the show seems to be the crux moment. I also just finished my new website www.derekwalter.net just in time for the show opening as well. My old site was a mix blog/ website, but I have now separated them both so all you viewers can see the professional portfolio and catch up on whats happening in the studio and current events. Check back soon for more updates, and soon a new blog layout.
